In a moment you will discover how I chose the title to this post.

Generally speaking I am into Modeling the “successful” behavior of others. However, it seems many model the behavior of anyone and everyone and this is why there seems to be so much failure and disappointment in business.

I will focus around network marketing and/or online sales but really the concepts apply to traditional business such as Real Estate, loan origination and more.

There are varied statistics but 95-99% of people in NWM/MLM never get even get close to making a full time living!

The major reason for this is people duplicate the failure of others. They run around “pushing” their business opportunity or service on those that have expresses ZERO interest in it and when this doesn’t work; fear and doubt set in and then it is a matter of time before that person drops out and quits. No wonder this is a formula for failure!

Many make tons of calls a day to business opportunity leads, others do house meeting several times per week or buy other forms of “leads”. I am not saying this has never worked for anyone as I know a few people personally that have succeeded by some of the above mentioned. What I am saying is that massive cold calling and other such tactics are nearly impossible to duplicate and only a tiny percentage will succeed.

We get into these business models to achieve time and money freedom….right?

What freedom is there in calling 100 plus strangers a day and getting rejected day in and day out?

What success do we feel when most of our family and friends have no interest in what we are doing?

How fun is it to approach perfect strangers in the mall and at the grocery store?

Do you really think flyers on cars and the laundrymat actually work?

There must be a better way….

Is it to blast people on social media? No….that is not the answer either. Social Media is great but must be utliized with the “social” part in mind and not blasting people. More on this in another post…

For many this must be a wake up call and a time to decide that cold calling and more are not the activities that you want to do for the next 10-20 years or that you can expect people in your group to do the same.

We have heard the sayings before; become the hunted and not the hunter, be pursued and don’t pursue, etc. The bottom line is you must figure out how to turn the tables and get people to call you, how to become “attractive” to your prospects.

I realize many are just not that committed to really change the way they do business and that this seems like a big hassle. I am not hear to preach; only to educate. If what you are doing is working and you are fine with that; keep going.

Ask yourself this question: How would I feel about my business if I could get 5 people calling me every single day? I have to suppose that would be a good feeling! I would also think that anyone would want to have people calling them about their opportunity; sure beats the mall, the grocery store and your negative and lazy brother in law.

Okay, let’s bring this full circle…

The problem is there is so much hype out there. “Buy my program and you’ll learn to generate 400 leads a day”, do this or that and you’ll get 127 people a day to call you”. Come on guys…I am not saying this is impossible but let’s get real for a minute here. First I question how many can do this and would have the budget to do what the “gurus” are teaching and do you really need 400 people a day? Could you actually speak to 50-60 a day?

Start your journey with goals that require you to stretch but that you can achieve. How about generating systems that will have 3-5 people call you daily? I know that doesn’t sound as inspiring as generating 400 leads a day but it’s a great start. If you spoke to 3-5 people a day; that called you…could you sponsor 1 every 2-3 days? Sure you could and you can run the numbers.

Could you work on a system like this that you can then teach to new distributors to do the same? Sure you could…

In the future when you get this dialed in and want to spend hundreds a day on marketing; then feel free to ramp it up to whatever your heart desires.

Work on your mindset first; read a great book starting today and blast through it this week and then read it a second time. Work that mindset muscle to re-program and re-focus your mind.

The next thing to do is decide that the above is a viable option for you. Does it make sense for you or not? If it does, then focus on the fact that generating 3-5 incoming calls a day is really your mission. Heck for some of you getting 1-2 calls a day would be great! That is not meant to be offensive, just realistic. Look 2 calls a day in a month are 60 new calls and that is probably more than you have now. Think about it….

Finally, get  a system to do this. Yes, a system. You will need to get an auto responder and write a series of e-mails, you will need a landing page or two in order to capture these leads, you will need to market in various of ways in order to generate these leads and the idea is to create a list a group of people that eventually you have some calling you…

A simple, paint by the numbers system may be best for you in the beginning and then as you learn; simply select various other ways to market and create a niche for yourself.

Remember, develop a great mindset, decide what you want and then create a system to generate results and keep going.
